Stamps from one postal administration that were supplied for use by that postal administration's post offices in another territory without any special overprints to denote the stamp's use in the second territory. Correct use can only be verified by correct cancellation type on the stamp or cover to which the stamp is applied. Known in German as Vorläufer or Mitläufer. Often found from colonies of European powers before the introduction of specific postage stamps for those colonies or when the Great Powers opened post offices in regions such as Latin America that were politically independent but whose postal administrations were felt deficient compared to European standards.
