The Vietnam War is one of the largest military conflicts of the second half of the 20th century, which left a noticeable mark on the culture and occupies a significant place in the recent history of Vietnam, as well as the United States and the USSR, which played an important role in it. Developed from 1955 until the fall of Saigon in 1975.
The war began as a civil war in South Vietnam. Later, North Vietnam was drawn into the war, later receiving the support of the PRC and the USSR, as well as the United States and its allies, who fulfilled their obligations to protect their friendly South Vietnam. As events unfolded, the war became intertwined with the parallel civil wars in Laos and Cambodia. All fighting in Southeast Asia from the late 1950s to 1975 is known as the Second Indochina War.
The war can be divided into several periods: the guerrilla war in South Vietnam, the full-scale US military intervention, and the final stage of the war.
