2018 March 21, four postage stamps dedicated to Leonid Kolesnilov’s lilac cultivars is to be released into circulation as part of the “Flora of Russia” series

Leonid Alexeyevich Kolesnikov (1893−1968) was an outstanding Soviet self-educated breeder; he created hundreds of lilac cultivars which got popular in the USSR and other countries. Lilac cultivation became his lifework. It was Leonid Kolesnikov who introduced the world to the “Russian lilac”. His lilac can be found in botanical gardens of many countries around the globe.

The postage stamps feature Leonid Kolesnikov’s lilac cultivars: HortensiaNadezhda (Hope), Krasavitsa Moskvy (Moscow Beauty) and Dzhambul.

Design: О. Savina.
Face value: 30 RUB each stamp.
Size of stamps: 36.5×29 mm, size of sheet: 100×150 mm.
Form of issue: sheet with illustrated margins of 8 (2×4) stamps.
Circulation: 110 thousand stamps of each value (55 thousand sheets).

In addition to the postage stamps, JSC Marka is to produce a FDC and first-day postmarks for Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
