2018 April 5, a postage stamp dedicated to Senior Lieutenant Dmitry Gorshkov was put into circulation as part of the “Heroes of the Russian Federation” series
Dmitry Evgenyevich Gorshkov was a senior lieutenant of the Ministry for Interior Affairs of the Russian Federation, Hero of the Russian Federation (1999).
Dmitry Gorshkov was born on 21 February 1971 in Tula. In 1986 he finished a secondary school and graduated from Tula Electromechanic College in 1990. He served in the army in 1990–1992. After discharge he worked in Tula as a communications specialist at a motor transport enterprise. In autumn 1993 Dmitry Gorshkov joined the agencies of the Ministry for Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. He participated in combat operations of the First Chechen War in February-March 1996 as an OMON engineer for communications and special vehicles of the Tula Oblast Department of Internal Affairs.
On 10 September 1999 in the course of a fight for the village of Chabanmakhi in Dagestan, Dmitry Gorshkov, a member of the 17th special operations unit, was carrying a wounded comrade from the battle field under the enemy fire and was mortally wounded by a Chechen shooter. He was buried in the Walk of Glory at Tula city cemetery.
