400 years of the world's first Primer
Element of protection
The first book in the world entitled "The Primer" was published on July 24, 1618 in the printing house of the Vilno Holy Spirit Orthodox brotherhood. It was one of the oldest Belarusian publishing houses in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which produced many books in Church Slavonic, Old Byelorussian and Polish.
In the world there are only two copies of this unique edition. One, incomplete, is in the Royal Library of Denmark; the second complete copy is in the United Kingdom, in Middle Temple Library of London.
The project was prepared in cooperation with the National Library of Belarus.
