On October 28, a stamp dedicated to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Ivan M. Gubkin, the organizer of the Russian oil geology and petroleum industry, will go into postal circulation

Ivan M. Gubkin (1871–1939) was the organizer of the Russian oil geology, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1929), Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1936), winner of the Lenin Prize (1931).

Ivan Gubkin's investigations in the field of oil and gas geology were of great importance for the state and laid the foundation for formation of the national raw material base, which allowed Russia to become a world leader in oil and gas. Ivan Gubkin initiated the geological works aimed at the development of an oil base between the Volga and the Urals, Central Asia, Western Siberia and the Far East; he contributed greatly to the development of the resources of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly.

The postal stamp provides an Ivan Gubkin’s portrait against the background of the Osinskneft oil and gas production directorate (1985).
