On June 15, 2023 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue the souvenir sheet “125 years since the launch of the first tram in Belarus”.

Element of protection

Vitebsk tram system was the first on the territory of modern Belarus and was the only one until 1929, when the tram was launched in Minsk. Vitebsk outstripped Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

The story started in 1896, when an agreement was signed between the city government and the French gentleman Fernand Guillon on the construction of an electric railway in Vitebsk.

On June 18 (old style) 1898, the first tram left the depot of the city.

After 125 years, the Vitebsk tram system is the most extensive and the most beautiful in Belarus.

The project was prepared in cooperation with JSC «Vitebskoblavtotrans».

The author of the monumental and sculptural exposition Vitebsk conductor is Ivan Kazak.

Colour of the postmark – black.

Special postmark and FDC designed by Ya. Biadonik.

A special cancellation on FDC will be carried out on the souvenir sheet issuing day at the post office No. 26 of Vitebsk.
