On March 17, 2016 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue the stamp “Common goldeneye” of the series “Bird of the year”.

Colour: full colour. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforation: comb 131/4: 13. Size of the stamp: 37x26 mm. Sheet composition: 7 stamps & 1 coupon. Size of the sheet: 100x129 mm. Print quantity: 49.000 stamps.
The stamp was printed at the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Bobruisk Integrated Printing House named after A. T. Nepogodin”.
Letter “H” is equal to the surface tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad.
The 18th Congress of the public organization “Ahova ptushak Batskaushchyny” (Protection of Homeland Birds) declared the common goldeneye the bird of the year 2016 in Belarus.
The common goldeneye is one of the species of ducks nesting in Belarus. It is distributed throughout Belarus but in small quantities. It dives to a depth of 6 meters. It nests in forest lakes and bogs. The peculiarity of this species is that the ducks make nests in the hollows of trees or in special artificial nesting boxes. The chicks jump out of their nests in the day of hatching, sometimes gliding to the land from a height of 15 metres. This species was previously included in the Red Book, but thanks to the protection activities its number increased and it was transferred to the Red Book Supplement of the Republic of Belarus (2015) as a species requiring attention.
The project was prepared with the assistance of the public organization “Ahova ptushak Batskaushchyny”.
The stamp contains logos of the global partnership of conservation organizations "BirdLife International" and the Belarus public organization "Ahova ptushak Batskaushchyny" (APB).
