The 63.5-metre-tall Petřín Observation tower is one of the most prominent in Prague. In 1889, members of the Club of Czech Tourists visited the world exposition in Paris and were so inspired by the Eiffel Tower that they decided to build a similar landmark in Prague. Also in the issue Technical Monuments:
Stamp Petřín Observation Tower and Funicular it reflects the thematic directions:
An observatory is a location used for observing terrestrial, marine, or celestial events. Astronomy, climatology/meteorology, geophysics, oceanography and volcanology are examples of disciplines for which observatories have been constructed
A tower is a tall structure, taller than it is wide, often by a significant factor. Towers are distinguished from masts by their lack of guy-wires and are therefore, along with tall buildings, self-supporting structures.
