Juan del Corral (Mompox, 23 June 1778-Santiago de Arma de Rionegro, April 7, 1814) was a patriot in the origins of the independence of the then province of Antioquia and the Republic of Colombia. After the July 20, 1810, the independent board of Bogotá was established, he was appointed, together with José Manuel Restrepo, as representative of Antioquia.When, in 1813, the Antioquians feared an invasion of the Spaniards, they named him dictator of the Free State of Antioquia, in order to prepare the defense of the province. He promoted the training of militias, banished several Spaniards and confiscated their assets and fortified some strategic sites. He also gave the title of "City " to the villas of Medellín and Marinilla, in August 1813.
